Where is this duodenum and what is it?
The duodenum is actually the first section of our small intestines.
The duodenums main function is to breakdown food using enzymes, it also regulates the rate of emptying the stomach. The process causes the release of bile from the liver and gallbladder. It is also responsible for the absorption of iron in the body.
The duodenum is a hollow C shaped tube about 10-15 inches in length (10-15 centimeters) The duodenum is broken up into 4 parts: The fist part or superior part, The second part or depending part, The third part or the horizontal or inferior part and the forth part or the ascending part.
The duodenum is located adjacent to the stomach and connects to the liver towards the top and to the small intestine towards the bottom
The duodenum connects to the pancreatic duct and the common bile duct which enter in the descending duodenum.
The accessory pancreatic duct also connect to the duodenum
