John had been struggling with his weightier sometime but otherwise he was really pretty healthy. He was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a couple years prior and on insulin therapy but as far as health, he thought her was pretty good. But his weight was of concern and he really wanted to lose some of those extra pounds. We had talked to the Doctor about it in the past, but this time John was very serious. After a lot of consideration and trying to diet on his own, we consulted our primary care doctor about the gastric by-pass, he was referred to the program. The first step was a check up, he passed, great blood pressure, heart rate etc. Next was a series of video/zoom meetings over a few weeks, we watched them together. After the second meeting we had reservations, but thought we'd get more information so we attended the 3rd one. John had me there with him the entire time, I would follow him through it all...But after this meeting he was extremely concerned, didn't like the permanent lifestyle changes he'd have to make and I agreed, so we dropped that idea.
We changed a lot of what we ate, we wanted to get out to walk but John just didn't have the energy to do it, he lost a couple pound here and there, but his energy level never rose.
After a few months of fighting his lack of energy, frustrated, things just weren't improving, we all tried to get him to walk, to get up more...He worked from home and as his family we just felt that the lazy bug had bitten him and he needed more persuasion even our 5 year old granddaughter tried to persuade him to go walk with her....nothing spurred him.
A couple months later he looked at me and asked me to take him to urgent care, this was so unlike him. I asked what was wrong and he just said "I just don't feel right"
Off we went....
We arrived at Urgent Care, John blood pressure was a bit elevated but everything else was fine. We waited a bit, I was worried about this strong guy who would have never asked to go to Urgent Care unless there was something really a miss...
We were called back and had a wonderful DO check him out, she didn't seem to terribly concerned, she checked his lungs and thought maybe he had some virus or possibly pneumonia? So off we went for x-rays and labs.
X-Rays came back with some questions, multiple masses? possibly pneumonia, his blood test came back with abnormal number too....
So she sent in a request for a CT scan
Stat CT scan was ordered STAT and then modified to include not just the chest but the abdomen and pelvis as well. This was all happening so fast, I felt that something was terribly wrong. We were at the CT appointment less that 2 days later, this was so scary. I tried to stay upbeat and positive for my husband, he really wasn't comprehending all this medical stuff!
The next day we spoke to our primary Doctor and he said to give them a few days to get the result.
Two days later we were scheduling a PET Scan (MRI)
I am so scared of what's happening....
More testing....more concern and more fear.
